It’s been a slow start to the bike shop this semester, but thesis student and Bike Shoppe Teaching Assistant (TA) Joey Daniels is excited to be back in his element.
“It’s been good,” Daniels said. “It’s been kind of slow, not only in the business, but just the bike fixing process in general.”
Daniels also works at a bike shop in downtown Sarasota. “I like to joke that I go there to get paid and I come here to fix bikes,” he remarked.
Daniels thinks that there has been heightened demand for bicycles during the COVID-19 pandemic “because there’s nothing better to do. People have more time on their hands, so a lot of people are just looking for more hobbies around the board and cycling is a great thing to get into.”
Students, faculty and staff can walk, ride or drive up to the Bike Shoppe between 6-9 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. A limited amount of supplies are available for cash-only purchases, but Daniels recommended that people order supplies themselves if the item is not in stock. Daniels joked that people can get everything except for hydraulic brake cleaning and advised people to email him or the other TA, Jude Zelznak, with any questions.
