The Student Success Center (SSC) opened its hiring for the Fall 2024 semester. According to the New College website, the SSC is located in the “Jane Bancroft Cook Library Room 103, the Student Success Center offers one-on-one appointments with trained peer coaches, group study sessions, recurring appointments, workshops, printable resources and referrals to other campus services.” The SSC is the place to go for all academic concerns and needs. In an attempt to continuously foster success in the classroom, the SSC is working hard to advance and enhance the student support services that they offer. New positions were made available for students to apply to so that the SSC can preserve and strengthen its capacity to best suit the New College community.
As the New College continues to grow, the demand for an increase in staffing at SSC is imperative to its ability to aid students in academic achievement. The student positions that were made available were for SSC coaches. SSC coaches demonstrate the ability to coach students, facilitate events, carry out administrative tasks, attend regular staff meetings and supervisor meetings, partake in program development and be active in training sessions.
Prospective candidates for the role of an SSC coach must possess strong communication skills, a commitment to student success and a team-work mindset. These coaches assist the New College student body in achieving their full potential, so having a background in counseling, advising, or student betterment in general are characteristics that the hiring team is looking for in students.
Applications for SSC coaches have closed for the Fall semester but information about future hirings can always be accessed on the SSC website, through email with the SSC, or in-person at the SSC.
