Sarasota students looking to enjoy the craft pizza in the trademark Mellow Mushroom psychedelic environment would have to trek to Brandon, Tampa or even Orlando to get their fix: until now. Nestled between the Dutch Valley and a Red Lobster in Sarasota’s Gulf Gate area is now a Mellow Mushroom. Through rain, shine and red tide, their parking lot remains packed with hungry and intrigued patrons. For those who somehow do not know, Mellow Mushroom offers up stone-baked pizzas with innovative toppings and plenty of options for customization, even for vegan and gluten free customers. Along with pizzas on the menu are subs and, I am not kidding, calzones that are bigger than the average-sized human head.
“I think a lot of people in Sarasota were really excited for Mellow Mushroom to open,” Kali Brodt, front of house and bar manager, said, readily discussing the constantly changing craft beer taps and the top quality of the food.
“Everything we do is handcrafted, all our pizzas are made from scratch, pressed out every single piece that we do and made on a stone,” Brondt said. Those who have free time on Saturday should first of all consider themselves fortunate and then take the trip down to South Sarasota to check this new addition out.
