The New College sail team sailed into fourth place on Saturday, March 8 in their In-Conference Regatta, coming
behind Eckerd College, Jacksonville University and the University of South Florida. Racing started at around 11 AM with a steady breeze that allowed eight races to be completed that day. Headed by sail coach Hilary Noble, the team took to the high seas and navigated northwest winds that allowed them to complete the race.
Third-year and former Catalyst editor Abigail “Abby” Oakes remarked that there were three divisions with two in each boat and that overall the regatta was a fun experience for those involved.
“We practice three days a week in preparation for competitions,” Oakes said. “The sailing team is a really fun and casual opportunity for competition at New College. We practice consistently and like doing well at regattas, but it is also just a really great social group and opportunity to get outside and enjoy the bay.”
Those who came out to support the sail team enjoyed a barbecue lunch and music. This marked the first regatta of the year.
