Update from President O’Shea:

“Dear Members of the New College Community,

There are no reported COVID-19 cases on campus.

Thanks to all of the students in the residence halls who have been able to make travel arrangements to return home this week, and to the staff in Student Affairs who have helped both those who could go and those who could not.  This was an extraordinarily difficult transition.

To prepare for the move to online learning next week, we are upgrading the capability of Canvas (our learning management system). The Office of the Provost plans to host online Teaching Tuesdays for faculty. The Jane Bancroft Cook Library will be producing a weekly podcast to help students, faculty, and staff remain connected to New College. The Writing Resource Center is extending remote-appointment options to students who make appointments through the WRC’s online schedule to work with their SWA remotely.

The Counseling & Wellness Center is going fully online with therapy appointments and is contacting students who have existing appointments. The Center will arrange telehealth appointments instead of seeing students in-person. While the Campus Police will continue to be respond 24/7, please call them at (941) 487-4240 rather than visiting the Campus Police Department building.

Departments that are conducting hiring searches can continue to interview candidates via Skype, Google Hangouts, Zoom or other teleconferencing tools. Please contact Human Resources once you are ready to make an offer to a candidate as alternate work arrangements may need to be made.

Stay well and continue to follow general flu protection guidelines. In particular, wash your hands frequently and practice social distancing.  Act as if you have the virus and want to prevent it being transmitted to others.”
