On Tuesday, May 4 audiences logged in and gathered in-person to support the New College Chamber Music Recital at Sainer Pavilion. Led by Adjunct Instructor of Music Nathan Frantz, students showcased their cooperative adroitness in selected music pieces ranging from allegro to adagio. 

The recital began in lively tempo with wind and string instruments, like the flute and cello, played in trios. Student instrumentalists were dressed in all black clothing and faced one another in triangular formation as the recital began in a lively tempo. The recital peaked with the incorporation of the warm, rounded sounds of the saxophone and slowly mellowed out with the violin. 

The recital program is arranged to demonstrate the different levels of improvement and talent of students over the course of the semester. Most students part of the chamber music course are non-music AOCs making the class relaxed and sincere. Unlike larger ensembles and bands where performers master longer classical music pieces, chamber music serves to make room for genuine musical relationships within the troupe. 

“You’re supposed to go into the class to learn more about the people you are playing with. Which I think is a lot more fun and dynamic than a larger ensemble” said second-year student Claire Thomas who plays the flute. 

Students are eager to continue performing, hopefully in full swing come next year, with the company of all students and guests.
