The newly-formed Constitutional Review Committee (CRC) is considering a proposed amendment to the Student Bill of Rights that would delineate guest rights on campus. This amendment was proposed at the Sept. 13 meeting of the Council of Student Affairs (CSA), led by Vice President of Student Affairs and Chairperson of the CSA Jordan Martin.

As of that meeting, it read: “Students have the right to host their guests on campus. Students are responsible for the actions of their guests. Guests cannot be discriminated against based on their race, gender, gender identity, religion, class, age, nationality, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, disability, and affiliation with New College, except as provided by law.” The specific wording of the amendment may change as the CRC continues to evaluate it.

If the amendment is brought before the student body, it will be voted upon as part of the “late fall” elections. These elections will decide upon a new New College Student Alliance President (or two Co-Presidents), half of the CSA, half of the Council of Green Affairs, and half of the Student Court justices. They will take place during the first week of November 2010.
