Update from President O’Shea

“We know of no COVID-19 cases on campus.

However, in order to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Chancellor and Chair of the Board of Governors have just directed that all State Universities move classes online or to alternative non-face-to-face modes beginning March 23 to April 3.

Accordingly, New College will move to remote learning after spring break beginning Monday, March 23.  Students will be contacted by e-mail no later than March 20 with instructions regarding their courses. We are committed to completing the semester and working with students to finish courses and tutorials.

In addition, all students are directed to leave the residence halls by 2PM on March 14.  We understand that for a limited number of students, going to or staying at a location away from campus is not possible. For that reason, the Office of Residential Life has created a petition process for students who believe they must remain on campus. Only those students who have successfully petitioned (by contacting residencelife@ncf.edu) will be allowed to remain in the residence halls.  The deadline for submitting a petition is 12 noon this Friday, March 13.  Late petitions will not be considered.

We anticipate that residence halls will reopen on April 4, but that may change.   Please take materials that you need to continue your courses.

At this time, campus offices will remain open, and all faculty and employees are expected to continue to report to work as usual.

Decisions on whether to continue with scheduled events will be handled on an individual basis.
