Cook Library gains new database

The Jane Bancroft Cook Library has updated the online thesis database system in order to preserve information and allow it to be more easily accessible. The New College of Florida Digital Repository, which includes the thesis database, is comprised of important documents such as a full archive of student newspapers, student catalogs and commencement information.

The online thesis database includes all of the theses written at New College since 1967 and allows an individual to easily search for a specific document. This new, better formatted database provides a more practical way to search through previously researched topics and helps aid any student or faculty member acquire more information on specific topics.

When one enters the Digital Repository, it provides six links to the different categories of the archives:  The Alumni Association Collection, Student Catalogues and Facebooks, Fine Arts Institute Collection, Student Newspapers, Office of the Registrar Collection and the Theses Database.

The Alumni Association Collection includes detailed records of the Association since 1967. News clippings, photographs and interviews are incorporated into the archive as well as other various types of documents. The Student Catalogues, also known as Facebooks, contain pictures of first-year students from 1964-1966. These booklets are laid out in a yearbook-style format and include the name, address and previous high school of the student.

Each collection is continually being updated and added to by the library staff, a never-ending but vital task to preserve New College’s past, present and future.
