  • Wed, Mar 22 Beyond Bernie: What’s Next for the Progressive Movement @ 6 – 8 p.m.

Fogartyville Community Center, 525 Kumquat Ct, Rear, Sarasota, FL 34236

Join community members to discuss the progressive movement and structural changes in the Democratic National Convention. There will be a social hour with the chance for attendees to share how they are building resistance and upholding progressive values in their lives and political activism. Larry Cohen, board chair of Our Revolution, will talk about the work of Our Revolution and local affiliates, followed by a Q&A about choices made during Bernie Sander’s campaign and structural changes in the DNC.   •  Wed, Mar 22 An Evening with Yaa Gyasi @ 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.

USF College of Arts and Sciences and the Institute on Black Life presents Yaa Gyasi, New York Times Best Selling author of Homegoing, a story of race, history, ancestry, love, and time that traces the descendants of two sisters torn apart in eighteenth-century Africa across three hundred years in Ghana and America. Join for this exciting discussion as Gyasi explores contemporary craft, cultural identity, and the complex racial landscape of America’s past and present. Ybor City Historic District, 7th Avenue. Tampa, FL

Join the LGBTQ+ community to celebrate sexual and gender diversity with dozens of vendors and a colorful parade that will begin at noon with a tribute to the Orlando Pulse tragedy victims. The parade will be announced from the balcony of Hamburger Mary’s Tampa and will wind its way east from the corner of Nuccio Parkway and 7th Avenue, down 7th Avenue to 20th Street where it will turn north to end around Centennial Park.   • Sat, Mar 25 Sarasota Honey Bee Festival @ 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Sweetgrass Farms, 8350 Carolina St, Sarasota, FL 34243

Sweetgrass Farms and Sarasota Honey Company present the second annual Honey Bee Festival to benefit honey bee research. The festival will feature a vendor and craft fair, live bands, theater and dance performances, crafts and games for the whole family, photo booths, farm animals, a rock climbing wall, food trucks, artisan foods, honey and wine tasting, and educational booths on backyard beekeeping, master gardening and much more!
Tickets are $5 for adults and $1 for kids under 12. Come in full bee costumes for free

  • Mon, Mar 27 Immigrant Rights Planning Meeting @ 6 – 8 p.m.

All of Us Sarasota is planning a candlelight vigil in front of House Representative Vern Buchanan’s (R-Sarasota) office to honor of the millions of immigrants and their families who have been detained, deported and de-humanized by racist anti-immigrant policies — and they need our help. Buchanan is a conservative congressman who has called Syrian refugees a “terrorist diaspora” and supported two bills cutting federal funding for sanctuary cities and toughening penalties against anyone who re-enters the country after being deported, making him the subject of this protest.
