This week (11/9 – 11/17), activists have the opportunity to attend speaker panels, pride rallies, protests and arts performances. Read on if you want to get involved in the community regarding sensible drug policy, racial issues, LGBTQIA+ rights, indigenous rights, environmental justice, and creative arts.

Join Stand Up Fight Back SRQ, an activist group committed to educating the public on social and environmental justice, to discover the current state of drug use and addiction among youth through a discussion with a diverse panel of experts followed by an audience Q & A. This is a potluck event; please bring food to share.

Stand Up Fight Back SRQ has monthly meetings with guest speakers and scheduled protests. They are always looking for activists and volunteers that want to help people and the planet.

  • Saturday, Nov 12 Orlando Come Out With Pride @ 12 p.m. – 10 p.m.

The 12th annual Orlando Pride Festival was rescheduled because of Hurricane Matthew. Members and allies of the LGBTQ+ community in Central Florida will gather together for a day of celebration, remembrance, festivities and giving back. The 12th annual Pride festival will feature a colorful parade including The Pulse Float, with Pulse employees and family members of those affected, followed by additional first responders and ORMC staff; an entertainment lineup including a nighttime firework spectacular and Pride Marketplace, a variety of supportive businesses and organizations.   • Sunday, Nov 13 Orlando Says No DAPL/No Sabal @ 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Activists will be peacefully protesting the DAPL and Sabal Trail pipelines and discuss what can be done to stop the progress that is already underway. Protesters will be stationed by the amphitheater and will be walking around the lake. Bring water and signs.   • Thurs-Sat, Nov 17-19 Fall Dance Performance @ 7 p.m.

For three nights, this provocative dance performance choreographed by students will shatter conventions and tackles social issues. The performance will examine the boundaries of ballet, exploring contemporary expressions of the classical form. Melissa Lodhi, Courtney Smith-Inzalaco and Erika Hand choreograph, with guest choreographer Mia Redding, whose work is based on the West African dance diaspora.
