Pastor Terry Jones to speak in Tampa

Pastor Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center (DWOC) will host a rally at the Tampa Convention Center at 7:30pm on Oct. 10 as a part of his “Stand Up America” tour.

Jones, who was recently in the media for leading the canceled “International Burn a Koran Day,” is continuing with his effort to “wake up America” to what he considers the evils of abortion, homosexuality and Islam.

In an email to the Catalyst, Jones wrote, “We are allowing people to control America who do not have America’s best interest in mind.  It is time for us to stand up, the Church needs to stand up.”

Jones said the rally will take place all over the nation and that the tour has no end in sight. “We shall be going to a major city once a month and holding these crusades and rallies,” he wrote. “We do not have any intention of stopping until we begin to see America turn around.”

He stated that so far, DWOC has not received any criticism for this tour, and expects the venue for the first rally to be fully booked. Admission is free of charge, but Jones said they will be accepting donations.

According to the St. Petersburg Times, Jones said he plans to move his church to Tampa Bay because he thinks Tampa will be more open to the DWOC, compared with the “liberal area … controlled by the University [of Florida],” referring to the church’s current location in Gainesville.
